Vote and Volunteer for Measure O

Volunteers needed to place lawn signs in our school neighborhood. Donate online, endorse, advocate to our PTA via social channels (FB, Next Door, WeChat, Line). Thank you to our school PTA for supporting this. Please direct questions to our PTA Presidents at Click here for more information. Palo Alto PTAs support Yes On O! For almost 20 years, local voter approved parcel taxes have generated over $15 million in locally-controlled funding to keep our schools strong. This measure needs 66.7 percent of voters to approve to pass, and every vote counts. GET A LAWN SIGN or HELP DISTRIBUTE LAWN SIGNS.
Library News
Books are being checked out from the library and Grades 3-5 are starting to check out our brand new Ebooks! Our collection is small, but we are hoping to gradually build it with more titles for younger grades as well.
A few notes about checking out print books:
  • Different Options to Request a Book
  • Use the Walter Hays Catalog to request a book
  • Fill out the Google form
  • Use SeeSaw to request (for Ms. Hunt, Ms. Guiriba, and Ms. Arnout/Harrison’s classes)
  • When the books are ready, you will receive an email notification from Mrs. Ford, Walter Hays’ Teacher Librarian
  • You will have the option to pick up the books at that time, or wait until your next class materials’ pick up day
  • All requests need to be completed by Wednesday (preferably before) in order for books to be picked up that same week.
Returning Library Books -- Please return library books to the bin outside of the office during school days, before 4:00pm, or Kindergarten students place them in your bags on the hooks outside of your classroom on Fridays.
Please reach out to Mrs. Ford with any questions:

Read with Your Kids about October's Core Value: Integrity

The Core Values Committee would like to invite parents to read books with their child(ren) about October’s Core Value, INTEGRITY. The Palo Alto library and Walter Hays library both have books on this theme. Your child(ren) can check them out at any time. Here are five of the titles:

      1. A Childs Garden: A story of Hope by Michael Foreman
      2. Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss

      5. A Bike like Sergios by Maribeth Boelts

The Core Values Committee, headed by Lise Latour ( and Zeehan Selha (, invite all members of the Walter Hays community to ask questions about the committee. We welcome all ideas and suggestions you may have about our Core Values Program.

Because of the pandemic this year, it's more important than ever to consider getting the flu vaccine for your children and family members. For more information on the influenza vaccine CLICK HERE.
[NEW] Green Tip! Food Waste
When we waste food, we waste the resources used to produce the food, too. Plan meals, with space for lunches and leftovers, for how much your family eats. Before you plan or shop, look in the fridge, and bring to the front things that need to be used up fast. Encourage kids to take only what they can eat, and then get more if they want. Serve leftovers for snack, freeze them, repurpose them and finally, compost them. More tips here: International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction
