Join Us for Young Art Online Classes

As the holidays are slowly approaching, we invite you to join us for two holiday themed art classes hosted by a professional Young Art Instructor! In this 45-60 minute class, young artists will work with the instructor to create a holiday themed “subject”. This is a great opportunity for kids to have a creative outlet after school. So grab your classmates and sign up together!

Wednesday, November 18th @ 3pm
Subject: Reindeer
Cost: $10/class

Make your purchase through our webstore link above. When you sign up to purchase, please make sure to enter in your email address to receive the password to register through the event links found in the flyer.
Library News from Mrs. Ford

Library book circulation is going well, and students are reading lots and lots! This month in library, we learned about Hispanic Heritage, Integrity, Unity Day, and Halloween. Library slides are posted each week on Schoology for most classes, and Seesaw for others. The slides include several additional read aloud videos for students, and are a collaboration of all PAUSD elementary librarians! There are sometimes also additional fun activities.

A quick reminder of the different ways to request library books!

  • Sign on to OPALs through Rapid ID and request a book from the catalog. Click here to find out how.
  • Use the Google Form to request a book
  • Send an email directly to Mrs. Ford: jford@pausd.org
  • Send a message to Mrs. Ford through Schoology
  • Ask Mrs. Ford during library time

All requests should be made by Wednesday afternoon in order for books to be received by Friday of the same week. For students in Cohorts A and B, and AM/PM Kindergarteners, books will be delivered to classrooms on Friday. For students doing distance learning, parents will be emailed when the books are ready to be picked up – usually Friday mornings. Please reach out to Mrs. Ford with any questions. Thank you!

The Core Values Committee would like to invite parents to read books with their child(ren) about Novembers Core Value, INITIATIVE. The Palo Alto Library and Walter Hays Library both have books on this theme. Your child(ren) can check them out at any time.

  1. Alejandro’s Gift, by Richard E. Albert
  2. The Curious Garden, by Peter Brown
  3. Listen to the Wind, by Greg Mortenson
  4. My Name is not Isabella: Just How Big Can a Little Girl Dream by Jennifer Fosberry
  5. Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen

The Core Values Committee, headed by Lise Latour (lisewhpta@gmail.com) and Zeehan Selha (zrastam@hotmail.com), invite all members of the Walter Hays community to ask questions about the committee. We welcome all ideas and suggestions you may have about our Core Values Program.

Get your FLU SHOTS NOW before they run out of Flu vaccine.

With two serious respiratory viruses circulating this year it's especially important to protect ourselves and our families as much as we can. Flu shots are now available, but may be in short supply this year because of the current pandemic and higher demand for flu vaccines this year, so speak to your family physician or pharmacist about getting your seasonal flu shot now. CDC message on the Flu Vaccine.
