A "Thank You" Message From Ruta
Dear Walter Hays Community,
I want to thank you so much for the generous retirement gift, kind words on Kudoboard and my goodbye car parade. All of these brought tears to my eyes.
Walter Hays was my second home for 22 years and I can’t believe I won’t be there to take care of the staff & students when school resumes on January 7th. I will especially miss the funny things your kids do and say. One of my favorite reasons for a child’s tardiness, "Sister was problematic." What 7 year old thinks of that? And kids forever mixing Gina and me up. It usually goes like this, “Hi Ruta, I mean Gina, I mean Ruta…. Which one are you?” I hope to come back to sub in the office in the fall just so I can get my fill of kid-isms.
If you happen to see me around town, I hope you will stop to say "HI." I may not remember your name, but will always remember you, your child, our exchanges.
Wishing you all good health and laughter always.
Retired Walter Hays Secretary

2020-2021 Yearbook Portraits & More!
PORTRAITS! Unlike year’s past we will not be hiring an external vendor to take portrait photos for each student due to strict COVID-19 safety protocol. As such, you should be receiving an email from your Room Parent (if you haven’t already) providing a portrait submission form. Please fill out the form as soon as you can.All portrait submission forms are due by January 29th in order to make it into the final yearbook.
Yearbooks are $25 with an extended deadline to order until January 31, 2020, at which point prices will increase!Yearbooks will be made available on a first come first serve basis. Get ahead of it, don’t procrastinate!
Black History Month will take place in February. We are looking for volunteers to help organize events. If you are interested, please contact Andrea at email@example.com.
Book Fair - Thank you!
The total spent online and in-store during our December Book Fair at Books Inc was $3420.32, earning our school $342.30. Thank you to everyone who was able to participate. A huge thank you to Cindy DiTiberio, Amy Darling, Lise Latour and Andrea Levesque for organizing this event.
Needed: Nominating Committee
Are you looking for opportunities to get more involved with the school? Hoping to meet more Walter Hays parents? The nominating committee is a great opportunity for both! The Nominating Committee is a time limited commitment (you are done in April!) The role of the committee is to recruit new members for next year's PTA executive board. Please reach out to Andrea firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
Read with Your Kids about January’s Core Value: Perseverance
We would like to invite parents to read books with their child(ren) about January’s Core Value, PERSEVERANCE. The Palo Alto library and Walter Hays library carry these books and we hope you will check them out. Here are five of the titles:
1. Brave Irene By William Steig
2. Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman
3. The Wednesday Surprise by Eve Bunting
4. Girl Wonder by Deborah Hopkinson
5. Mirette on the High Wire by Emily Arnold McCully
The Core Values Committee, headed by Lise Latour (email@example.com) and Zeehan Selha (firstname.lastname@example.org), invite all members of the Walter Hays community to ask questions about the committee. We welcome all ideas and suggestions you may have about our Core Values Program.
