Needed: Nominating Committee

Our PTA is desperately searching for parents to serve on our nominating committee. If we cannot form a PTA for next year, programing at our school will look much different - our kids will miss out!

Are you looking for opportunities to get more involved with the school? Hoping to meet more Walter Hays parents? The nominating committee is a great opportunity for both! The Nominating Committee is a time limited commitment (you are done in April!) The role of the committee is to recruit new members for next year's PTA executive board.

Please reach out to parliamentarian Daniel Moore at if you are interested.
Black History Month

Black History Month will take place in February. We are looking for volunteers to help organize events. If you are interested, please contact Andrea at
Last Chance to Buy Yearbooks at $25

Yearbooks are $25 with an extended deadline to order until January 31, 2021, at which point prices will increase.

This will be the yearbook to look back on and will serve as a wonderful keepsake for the entire family! The yearbook theme for 2020-2021 is “Virtually Together” and will encapsulate the unique journey of our students that include memorable milestones captured throughout their school year whether they were in Distance Learning or Hybrid.

Reminder: Yearbook Portrait Submissions

Unlike year’s past we will not be hiring an external vendor to take portrait photos for each student due to strict COVID-19 safety protocol. As such, you should be receiving an email from your Room Parent (if you haven’t already) providing a portrait submission form. Please fill out the form as soon as possible. All portrait submission forms are due by January 29th in order to make it into the final yearbook.

PAUSD’s 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

We are excited to bring this event to our community! The Racial Equity 21-Day Challenge is a powerful opportunity for shared learning and growth that invites educators, students, families, and the community at large to develop a deeper understanding of how inequity and racism affect our lives and our community.

Sign up here for the 21-day self-guided learning journey. Registration launched on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – January 18, 2021, and the challenge officially begins on Monday, February 1. Topics include racial identity, intersectionality, race and health, legal system inequity, allyship, and more.

Beginning Monday, February 1, 2021, participants will engage with articles, videos, podcasts, etc. related to that day’s topic. Choose at least one resource to explore, and feel free to journal about your thoughts or chat about what you learned on the PAUSD discussion board.

I hope you consider joining us and many members of the PAUSD community for the Racial Equity 21-Day Challenge. Our goal is to reach 1,000+ participants for the challenge, and it would be wonderful if we had a strong representative group from Walter Hays! Please feel free to let others know about this meaningful learning opportunity by forwarding this message to them.
